On February 14, 2016 Ukrainian American community during the NHL hockey game in New Jersey celebrated "Ukrainian Heritage Day". At the event Ukrainian artists, singers, Ukrainian art and dance ensembles took part. I.Sybiga, Consul General of Ukraine in New York, delivered a welcoming speech.

During the event the Ukrainian community and diplomats of the Consulate welcomed the participants of ATO in Donbas: Sergeant Vadym Svyrydenko and Private Vadym Maznichenko who defended Ukraine from the Russian aggression, were seriously wounded and had undergoing treatment in the USA. Our militaries had heavy operations: V.Svyrydenko lost both legs and hands, and V.Maznichenko – one arm and leg. In between the hockey game all the spectators welcomed Ukrainian soldiers who were declared heroes of the game.
