During the visit to the United States from January 15th to 18th, 2014 to participate in the First meeting of Joint Ukrainian-American Working Group on Intercountry Adoption, Consul General of Ukraine in New York Igor Sybiga, Head of the Directorate, Office of the Ombudsman for Children under the President of Ukraine Mrs. Liudmyla Volynets, Head of Intercountry Adoption Unit of the Consular Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mr. Sergii Kulykov and diplomats of the Consulate General of Ukraine in New York met the American families with their adopted Ukrainian children.
The meeting at the Consulate General of Ukraine in New York was opened by Igor Sybiga, Consul General of Ukraine in New York. The meeting joined two American families together with their adopted Ukrainian children.
During the meeting parents shared their experience of adoption in Ukraine, told about progress and development of their adopted children. The members of the delegation had the opportunity to ask the parents about children's health and adjustment to the new environment. Adopted children Alex and Vika also answered the questions and spoke about their life in the United States.
The discussion raised relevant issues concerning adoption. Ukrainian side stressed the importance of protecting the rights of the child and as the importance of filing post-adoption reports on living conditions of children adopted by the U.S. citizens in time.
In turn, the parents were able to get answers to their questions and informed about the readiness of a large number of American families to support the Ukrainian side in order to improve the situation in the context of post-adoption reporting.
At the end of the meeting the children received as a keepsake the pictures of Ukrainian nature.
